Dress Code

All students and staff are expected to uphold high standards of conduct and appearance. Clothing should be suitable and comfortable for normal school activities and should reflect the respect, pride and standards of the student"s home and community.

General clothing standards for all children require that shoes must be worn at all times and should be worn with appropriate socks or stockings.

The following items are not allowed to be worn at school:

  • Open-toed sandals, flip flops, slippers, high heel shoes and healies
  • Bare midriff tops, blouses, shirts or tops, mini shorts / skirts / skorts, and pajamas
  • Blouses or tops with straps smaller than one inch wide
  • T-shirts with imprinted suggestive words or pictures
  • Pants worn below waist level
  • Hats worn inside buildings
  • Dangling or large earrings
  • Excessive amounts of jewelry
  • Sunglasses
  • Hairstyles or excessive make-up that is a distraction to learning

Many of the above items can be hazardous when running and jumping on the blacktop and dirt playground.

The principal may approve exceptions to the dress code for unusual situations or for specific events, such as spirit days.


Rosa Parks Elementary has a policy of school uniforms for all students. Uniforms are available from many retail stores in San Diego such as Target and Wal-Mart. All students are expected to wear uniforms within two weeks of enrollment. Make-up of any kind is not allowed. Hairstyles that may be considered adistraction are not allowed. Jewelry is not recommended if worn, it must be small/earrings need to be smaller then a quarter and safe to wear during physical activities.

Guidelines for Uniforms:

  1. Colors: Bottoms must be dark blue; tops must be white.

  2. Shirts must have a collar. T-shirts may be worn if bearing a school logo

  3. Girls'skirts or boys' or girls' Bermuda shorts cannot be worn more than 2" above the knee.

  4. Panthems may not extend beyond the heel of the shoe.

  5. Sneakers and leather shoes are both acceptable, no sandals or heels permitted.

  6. Students must wear uniforms while attending Rosa Parks' "School In ThePark Program" and other school relatedtrips.

  7. Parents seeking a waiver from this uniform policy must meet with the administration. No pupil shall be penalized academically or otherwise discriminated against ordenied attendance to school if the pupil's parents choose to execute thiswaiver.
