KPBS will once again bring One Book for Kids to Rosa Parks as part of their One Book, San Diego event and activities. The author/event visit this year will include the author, Dorina Gilmore visiting with all 3rd grade classrooms in the MPR where she will read her book, Cora Cooks Pancit, talk about how she became a children's book author and host a brief Q and A time with the students. Each child in 3rd grade will be provided with a hard copy of the book. We enjoyed her two years ago when her book was first selected as the One Book, One San Diego For Kids<http://www.kpbs.org/one-book/kids/> read and the students loved her. KPBS also arranged for a local Filipino cultural organization to join in the event to share some of their dances and music in costume.

The book selection for 2015-16 was:

"The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore"

By William Joyce

"The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore" is a modern masterpiece, showing that in today's world of traditional books, eBooks, and apps, it's story that we truly celebrate-and this story, no matter how you tell it, begs to be read again and again.

One Book

  • This cool program chooses one book per year for everyone in our community to read together, and through the process we learn more about our world, ourselves and each other. This year, the book for kids is called Jingle Dancer. We're very excited to have the author of Jingle Dancer at Rosa Parks Elementary to speak to students and read her story.
  • One Book for Kids program is the children's companion program to One Book, One San Diego. One Book is a partnership between KPBS and 68 local public libraries throughout the community! This year the 2013 selection is called "Caleb's Crossing," by Pulitzer Prize winning author Geraldine Brooks. You can check out a full list of One Book events at:http://www.kpbs.org/one-book/2013/
