Raise your hand if you like to read... all of us who love to read know books help you use your imagination and show you different people and places all over the world. On Tuesday, October 22, 2013, 3rd grade students met the author, Cynthia Leitich Smith as she read her story about a girl who lives in the state of Oklahoma, whose family is part of a American Indian tribe called the Muscogee Creek Nation. San Diego is also home to many American Indian tribes, like the Kumeyaay and the Luiseno Indians. After the author presentation, students had a chance to see and learn more about them, too!
- After our author presentation, there was a special performance by a group of dancers called the Soaring Eagles.
The Soaring Eagles are an award-winning Native American Indian cultural dance group from San Diego County. The Soaring Eagles educational programs are designed to heal and strengthen traditional American tribal family values and instill a sense of belonging to the American inter-tribal urban community through cultural awareness and friendship.
